ELDER Alliance
The ELDER Alliance is a broad collaboration of non-profit organizations, businesses, government agencies, community partners, and age 50+ residents. Since 2010, ELDER Alliance has worked to establish a strong support system for our rapidly growing aging population. We are committed to older people staying healthy longer, remaining active and involved, and maintaining maximum independence. The Alliance is directed by United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona and Pima Council on Aging.
Direct Care Workforce Program
United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona is helping individuals interested in being a direct care professional succeed in training, job placement, and job longevity.
End of Life Care Partnership
The Arizona End of Life Care Partnership (EOLCP), anchored at United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona, was the largest funded end-of-life community-based partnership of its kind in the United States thanks to the David and Lura Lovell Foundation and Community Foundation for Southern AZ. Between 2017 and 2024, nearly $8,000,000 was awarded to the Partnership. Our Partners provide education, resources, services, and support to people of all ages in our community, helping them to navigate the challenging issues of serious illness, death, and dying.
Affordable Housing for Older Adults
A collaborative effort working to develop an affordable housing initiative that prioritizes the needs of the community’s most vulnerable members – lower-income older adults – and to create a model for community-wide collaboration. The goal of the initiative is to serve as a resource for communities, nonprofits, public and private development entities, and local jurisdictions interested in creating or supporting efforts to develop affordable housing options that meet the specific needs of older adults.

United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona is helping individuals interested in being a direct care professional succeed in training, job placement, and job longevity.

Meet A Direct Care Worker
Angel Cordova, born and raised in Tucson, overcame significant challenges to achieve her dream of working in healthcare. After becoming disconnected from school and work during high school, she cared for her ailing grandmother, which reignited her passion for caregiving. With the support of United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona, Angel connected with programs that helped her improve her test scores, secure entry into the Caregiver Training Institute, and receive certification through the Direct Care Training Program. These programs also provided financial assistance, job placement, and ongoing peer support. Today, as a certified caregiver, Angel is dedicated to helping the most vulnerable in her community—youth and elders—while embodying the transformative impact of United Way’s resources and programs.
